Eric Alan Rosenthal
A resident of Jamaica Plain in Boston, MA since 1991, I paint mostly land and cityscapes, in and around Boston, greater New England, and other places I have travelled to visit. I’ve been experimenting with different styles and techniques - my influences are many, including but not limited to Fauvism, Abstract Expressionism, the impressionists and many modern landscape painters.
I’d like to make paintings that feel natural, open and expansive to the viewer. I paint mostly from photographs, but I’m not really interested in making them “realistic”. If I could, I would just throw the paint up into the air and let it all land at once on the canvas. Something immediate and direct.
Here are some things that other people have said about my paintings:
“Every painting tells a different story… “
“Your paintings draw me in, yet they allow me to finish the thought.”
“Honestly, the feeling that I get when I look at these…. I feel the delight of childhood imagination. Boundless, comforting, inviting, and like it could last forever. It elicits the same emotion as my favorite nostalgic experiences “
“So strong yet subtle. Full of radiating force.”
“I feel like I can tell how you were feeling when you painted them.”
